Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a complex neurological impairment that results in an overactive behavior pattern and concentration difficulty. While it primarily affects children, a growing number of adults are being diagnosed with this disorder. Boys are afflicted some three times as often as girls. Children with ADHD are full of energy, fidgety, impulsive, reckless, irritable, emotionally immature and aggressive. Because their attention span is short, they do not conform to orderly routine. ADHD often leads to anti-social acts and learning difficulties, although IQ is normal. No definite cause has been established, but some researchers now believe heredity plays a role.
